Why I'm buying my mom an iPad
I know this kind of post is already becoming a bit cliche, but I thought I’d get it on the action while it’s still at least topical. Introduction My mom has been using computers for years, for web browsing, checking email, and well I’m not exactly sure what else. She’s never owned her own computer, and I think that the idea of files and folders and installing things has...

A simple thought on iPhone app design
Some attention to detail, continuity, and just a little bit of taste goes a long ways towards creating beautiful iPhone apps. Getting all three of those is what sets amazing app’s apart from the ones that work but are just okay.

Looking for testers
I’m going to be ready for beta testing for an application that helps keep track of logging recurring contacts and being reminded of follow-up dates. This is a complete rewrite from the application that I had last year, so I want to make sure that its well tested and ready for release. If you can help, send me a reply or direct message via Twitter to @collindonnell and I’ll get in...

willw: maniacalrage: All proceeds made on January 20, 2010 will be donated to Haiti. You get great software, Haiti gets financial help in its time of crisis. Buy any of the software listed tomorrow (Wednesday) and developers will donate the proceeds to charities for Haiti relief. I’ve been working on this site all weekend—it’s amazing how difficult it was to design a clean layout for that...

360iDev San Jose 2010 →
360iDev is the conference that I’ve had the most fun at, made the best contacts from, and which also has had amazing informative sessions both times that I’ve been. Also the people are amazing and the friends you’ll make there are incredible. The tickets are cheaper the sooner you buy them, so go buy them now. As a a real world practical incentive to go: Every single contract...

2009 as short as possible
Tried to write a post summing up 2009 before, but the truth is just too much happened. I’ve summed it up in really general terms. Personal Moved a couple of times, the first being the worst apartment I ever had and the second being really good. Hung out at The Naked Lounge coffee shop every day, wrote code, and hung out with friends. Conferences Macworld Expo Went for one day....

So I had this idea...
I was thinking what if people sent me song requests through Twitter (@collindonnell), and then I pick one a week to learn and record and then post right here. The more suggestions the better chance I have to pick something I can do wonderfully, so please spread the word through any means possible (Twitter, Tumblr, etc) since participation is sort of required for this to work. Thanks!

Vegetarians Who Eat Meat - Newsweek.com
Vegetarians Who Eat Meat - Newsweek.com: “For as long as people have been foreswearing meat, they’ve also been sneaking the occasional corn dog. The difference is, vegetarians used to feel guilty about their sins of the flesh-consumption. Now, thanks to the cachet attached to high-end meat, they are having their burgers without sacrificing the moral high ground.” (Via...
